Holy cow, what a fantastic day for news! We had so many great posts today. Well, there was lots of stuff that I found interesting, anyway! Tons of New Super Mario Bros. Wii footage, Miyamoto talked about everything under the sun, the first motherload of Epic Mickey details, and so much more! Do yourself a favor and make sure to go back through today’s stories. There are a ton, but I promise there’s an equal amount of exciting stories! You guys enjoy all the posts, plus this review. I’m off to bed for now. We made it to Friday, gang! See you all in a few, short hours.
Wii Fit Plus may very well be the best deal that Nintendo has ever put out.
I feel dirty playing Wii Fit Plus. That’s not because I’m sweating as only an obese man can, but because this game offers so much for so little. Seriously, this is one of the best packages Nintendo has ever put together. I don’t care if you’re only picking up the game for its more game-like activities, or you’re seriously looking to shed some pounds. If you’re going with the software-only version, you’re getting an absolutely ridiculous amount of bang for your buck.
As I’m sure you know, Wii Fit Plus gives you everything that Wii Fit did, but a lot more…well…everything. If you wanted more control over the workouts you could do, that’s in here. If you wanted it to be easier to get into some multiplayer sessions with friends, that’s here to. Perhaps you wanted even more detailed stats on how much you were losing, and how many calories you burned. Yep, a ton of stats are waiting for you inside. Quite honestly, Wii Fit Plus bests the original Wii Fit in every way possible. There’s nothing that this game doesn’t do better. Kind of makes you upset that you picked it up the first time around, doesn’t it?!
As I was saying above, there are a ton of additions for the player that’s looking to get serious about losing weight, staying in shape, and keeping detailed data on their daily activities. Placing Wii Fit Plus next to Wii Fit in the exercise category makes the original game feel like a baby’s first step. All the goals that competitive third party software were trying to achieve have now been bested by Wii Fit Plus. I’ve gone hands-on (and feet, legs, elbows, butt, ect.) with a lot of different fitness games. You might not believe that by looking at me, but I can promise you one thing. I can tell which games have the best tool sets to deliver results to their player, and Wii Fit Plus has gone the extra mile.
Wii Fit Plus had to come back strong. Since the original Wii Fit, there have been countless third party titles that have tried to take the original game’s crown. There are some serious contenders out there, as well. EA Sports Active is a mighty fine game, and certainly took a unique approach to the fitness gaming market. Still, you can’t really beat the original…unless the original gang sets out to best themselves. Wii Fit Plus has stepped into the limelight to eat up that attention that the original title received, and it is definitely worth your time.
Since I am a gamer at heart, you know that I was most interested in the new balance board games. You might groan at the mention of new mini-games, but remember…Nintendo knows how to handle these sort of things. The games they’ve put together for Wii Fit Plus are no different, and I’ll be damned if I don’t build up one hell of a sweat while running through them.
You’ve seen some of the videos by now. These games will have you flapping about like a chicken to land on targets, throwing snowballs at your Mii friends, juggling while balancing on a giant ball, skateboarding through an indoor skate park, and much more. All of these games put their components to really good use. Without a doubt, my favorite game is the chicken target title. Think of it as Monkey Target, but with a chicken…and you look much dumber doing it. This game is tons of fun, making you flap your arms about with Wiimote in hand, and leaning on the balance board to steer yourself. Little flaps, big flaps, the board and Wiimote recognize it all. I dare you to fly through just the first round of this game, and not break out into a sweat.
One of my other favorites has to be the cycling mode. Surprisingly enough, holding the Wiimote sideways to steer while prancing on the balance board ‘making biscuits, if you’re a cat) does kind of feel like riding a bike. You can just take your time in this mode, enjoy the scenery, and pass by the necessary checkpoints whenever you want. There’s something really enjoyable about pedaling around WuHu Island, taking in the virtual scenery, and waving ‘hello’ to your Mii friends.
Of course, a few mini-games return from the first Wii Fit, which is the only real stinker I can think of. That’s not to say that the games aren’t fun, but by all means, Wii Fit Plus is an expansion pack. Do we really need ‘expansions’ of a few games that are already included in the title?! With that said, you’ll at least get to travel new and exotic paths while floating around in a bubble.
It’s not often that you find a game for $20 that has this much content, attention to detail and replay value. The number one goal of Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus is to keep you coming back! If you’ve been sticking with Wii Fit, than Wii Fit Plus is an absolute must-have. If you’ve fallen off the Wii Fit wagon, you should still get Wii Fit Plus. Trust me, it’ll get you right back into the swing of things. Hell, if you have a balance board but hated Wii Fit, you might want to pick this game up anyway. The 15 balance board games are seriously a blast, with nary a one turning out to be a pure stinker. Play some balance board games, do some exercise, weigh your baby and your pets, learn about how much weight you’re losing, and realize how much fun you’re having with exercise.
I’ve gotten my Wii Fit second wind thanks to Wii Fit Plus. Are you going to join me?
