Monday is over, and it was pretty painless. It’s always nice to have an easy start to the week. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a nice, calm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday! Things can’t go that bad with such a great week of game releases upon us! I’m sure you guys have your eye on a few titles, too. While I’d love to squeeze in some more Mega Man 9, I have to get to bed. I’ll catch you all in a few short hours. Here’s to a fantastic Tuesday!

Not one, not two, but 3 big 2d releases in the span of one week. How much better than that can it get? Well, if you are into 2d gaming, you must be living it up just like I am! If you are more into the 3d side of things, this post isn’t really for you. I have never been shy about my love of 2d gaming, and this week is one I’ve been looking forward to for a long time now. Finally, I’ve gotten my hands on three of my most-wanted games. The best part is, the platforms they’ve hit range from pocket to console.

First, we have a our little pink friend, Kirby. It’s great to see him return, even if he’s coming back to us in a re-release. Kirby Super Star Ultra may have hit the SNES awhile back (with a shorter name), but that original release is pretty pricey if you’re looking to buy on eBay. Now, all of those people that missed out on the adventure collection can grab it for the DS, with some touch-screen mini-games added in for good measure. Kirby games are always simple, colorful, vibrant, and plain fun. They may not set the world on-fire, but Kirby fans love the cream puff for what he is!

Stepping things up a bit is Wario’s return to consoles with Wario Land: Shake It!. This time, Wario returns to his classic form. While he’s gone after cash in all of his games, be they mini-game focused or not, now the greedy one heads back to some classic 2d platforming. There are Wiimote motions included in the game, but they never get in the way of the old-school fun. I love seeing Wario back in his traditional outfit, scouring the world for coins, treasure, and some garlic when he’s feeling down.

Last but not least, we have Mega Man 9. You don’t get anymore old-school than this release. Capcom took the seires all the way back to NES times for this one. 8-bit sound, graphics, and gameplay at its best. Don’t let the retro graphics fool you, this game will kick your ass harder than 3d camera controls ever have. While Wario and Kirby are simple yet addictive 2d romps, Mega Man 9 is out to make you cry. Dr. Wily wants you to throw down your Wiimotes in frustration, and there’s a good chance you’ll do just that. Frustration at its finest, but it’s the good kind!

That right there, is my idea of a perfect week in gaming. That’s only looking at the 2d side of things! I don’t dislike 3d by any means, which is why I can’t wait to get my hands on de Blob, Lego Batman, and more. I’ll just always have that special spot in my heart for 2d gaming. How do you feel about the recent push for 2d titles? Do you like the retro return of Mega Man, or do you want things to head more in a ‘Legends’ direction? Do Wario and Kirby in classic form get you excited, or are you waiting for the next big 3d outings?
