Madden 09 – interview

A portion of a Game Informer interview general manager Philip Holt…

Game Informer: Can you recap the development timeline for taking Madden from scratch to store shelves for our readers?

Philip Holt: It’s between 10 and 12 months. As soon as we finish this year’s version (we usually wrap up in early July), the team takes a couple weeks off for vacation and comes back to work on early pre-production for the next game. Everybody who worked on the last title works on the next version; we don’t have a leapfrog team or anything like that.

Capcom and University of Portsmouth lecturer team up to tap into games as a learning tool

“The power of games as a learning tool is the great untapped education resource of our time. I expect many other games companies will get onboard when they see the obvious benefits to society of using games as one more tool to educate young people.” – Nipan Maniar, a senior lecturer in creative technologies at the University of Portsmouth

“We set up a special Games Education Projects team to take a closer look at this idea of using games like We Love Golf as learning environments. We also wanted to explore the idea of seamless learning between gameplay and old-fashioned subjects that many kids hate, like maths, physics and trigonometry. The idea is to get people playing games thinking that they are a champion golfer, but which have Einstein and Newton lurking in the background sending useful messages to the subconscious.” – Rhys Cash, research manager at Capcom

The KLOBB returns?

klobb 2

Too Human is not coming out on the Wii, nor will it ever. Still, Nintendo fans can find a little but well-known piece of our history in Silicon Knights’ latest game. Anyone that played Goldeneye back in the day should be very familiar with the KLOBB. I thought it would stay down for good…but evil developers obviously saw fit to bring it back.

Hannah Montana: Music Jam – review

A portion of a Pocket-Gamer review…

Music Jam’s flaws keep it far from perfect, particularly for those with short attention spans. But it doesn’t frustrate the player, and there’s a lot of variation to be found. For fans of Hannah Montana, this is an accomplished use of the licence. But don’t expect a rollercoaster ride.

“In today’s technology-driven world, where learning does not stop at the classroom, the role of libraries in supporting literacy and learning is more critical than ever before. Gaming for learning presents a tremendous opportunity for libraries to further literacy skills in children as well as adults.” – Verizon Foundation President Patrick Gaston
