Mon, 30 Jan 2006 - Rockstar has been a longtime proud sponsor and supporter of the World Bodyboarding Tour - and this year was no exception. Rockstar is proud to present the results of the last two stops on the 2006 IBA World Bodyboarding Tour, the Rockstar Games Honolua Bay Pro and Pipeline Pro.
Australian Damian King’s victory at this year’s Rockstar Games Pipeline Pro, presented by Mike Stewart Science Bodyboards, wasn’t enough for the reigning champion to retain his title, as Ben Player, another native Australian was able to capture this year’s World Championship on the strength of his second place finish at Pipeline.
Player edged out yet another Australian for the championship, Gold Coast’s Mitch Rawlins, who won the penultimate stop on this year’s tour, the Rockstar Games Honolua Bay Pro. Player entered the event at Pipeline ranked fourth, but the three competitors ahead of him were all eliminated in the quarterfinals.
This year’s event at Honolua Bay also featured a women’s division, where Carolina Casimero won out over Daniela Ronquilio in an epic battle between two of Brazil’s finest. Third place finisher Kira Llewellyn took home the Women’s World Championship. Prior to the men’s final at Pipeline, Llewellyn and the rest of the women’s finalists participated in an expression session to showcase their talents at the wave that is considered the benchmark of bodyboarding performance.
Kauai’s David Hubbard captured the Dropknee World Championship this year, after successive wins at both Honolua Bay and Pipeline. Hubbard also finished fourth in the main division at Honolua.
